I’m leaving now to head to Orlando for the UCF-Clemson series, so I don’t have time to post the full Tyler Robertson scouting report right now.
I did manage to get the video on YouTube, and to tide you over until the report comes, here’s the Robertson video and here’s my preliminary thoughts on his outing. Now it’s your turn to take the second look, at the video. I’ll be weighing in shortly with the third look, my observations.
Notice the “funkiness” in the arm action, it’s a little stiff (arm fully extended) and he never really goes behind his body (parallel with chest) as much as you’d prefer. So, that’s what the scouts don’t like. Decide for yourself and I’ll give my take in a few hours.

I don’t like that stiff motion at all. He’s an arm injury waiting to happen. Maybe he got by last year with his deciption like Willis used to do in his younger years. I have a feeling he’s going to get lit up when he reaches AA.

I’d be more concerned with the follow through and the abrupt stop he comes to, with that looping motion he has. He could probably add velocity and consistency if he kept his gloves side arm up(and firm) and lets his pitching arm go straight through to his right hip without pulling back on the follow through.

Kiley,
What were your thoughts on Daniel Valencia?

Do you only scout the FSL. Do you go and look at other leagues like the MWL and the SAL. If you go to those league, i’d go take a look at the Lansing Lugnuts and the Rome Braves. I’d love to have a Scouting report on Jason Heyward.

Robertson’s motion made me grab my own arm in pain. Wow, that is just not a pretty motion from start to finish.

mike,
Not sure if I’ll be able to make it to the SAL or MWL this season. I did see Heyward in the GCL last year and he is the real deal…or as much as you can be playing against rookie ball competition.
Scott,
Danny Valencia was an interesting guy for me, decent athlete with average speed and solid D, and made some good contact with a solid approach. Nothing really jumps out at you, but I’m keeping an eye on him going forward.
